Manage BlogJoomla Wins Awards - Will it win you over?
November 13th 2008Joomla! is among the most popular open source CMS applications, with a following that includes the likes of MTV and Harvard University. If these guys are using it, shouldn't I?
Well, it all depends. Joomla! is quite large and can be very complex for the end user. They have improved their interface recently, but our clients have certainly struggled with the terminology and the complexity of a task as simple as adding a new page to their site.
If you are a mid-sized or large company with a staff available to get the system up and running, and to manage any of the thousands of plugins currently available, the Joomla can be a beautiful fit. And it will likely make your IT staff very happy with it's flexibility and the community that has grown up around it.
However, if you are a small business, or an individual, or if you are not technical yourself, then Joomla might just be overkill. The good news is that it is free, and a moderately technical person can usually get it up and running in an afternoon. And once you break through the terminology barrier, Joomla can be a marvelous application.
